With an ongoing manga garnering huge numbers in sales and an anime series with plenty of installments that make the canonical timeline difficult to follow, here's how to read and watch every Black Butler adaptation. Generating an anime adaptation, a musical and a Nintendo DS game, there's no denying its massive success or the impact it's had on the community. Even so, 15 years since its initial publication in Monthly GFantasy, the supernatural-shonen series has managed to sustain its cult following. To put it plainly the second half of season one isn’t canon to the manga (anime original) so the manga changes it’s story line and splits off somewhere else exploring a completely different plot, not showing the end half of season one (or season two for that matter).A unique premise that compelled audiences with its eccentric characters and mystifying plot, Black Butler is a highly recognizable title despite no longer being part of the mainstream anime community. Since the manga is pretty large it would be safe to assume something like what happened in the end of season one - Sebastian going to consume Ciels souls, then something stopping him - probably has happened in the manga, but it obviously wouldn’t include Alois and Claude. But Alois and Claude are anime original (they don’t appear in the manga) so the plot would have to lead somewhere else. So the anime follows a different story line to the manga, because where season one leads up to its end, this introduces us to Alois and Claude, then the whole soul switching and Ciel becoming a demon ordeal and of course what you were thinking, where Sebastian went to eat Ciels soul.
But for the most part, I know that the second half of season one and the whole of season two aren’t canon to the manga (anime original).
I haven’t read the manga, so those who have feel free to correct me (without spoiling anything).
